I Grow Community Gardeners, Community Gardeners Grow Communities

I decided to google community gardener really quick (along with social) and I ran into [a job posting from Akoha!] lol Anyhow, I was listening to Al Krueger’s (from Comet Branding) radio show and he asked something about how to describe community managers/liaisons. I tweeted this (which he ReTweeted):

RT @miltownkid: @AlKrueger Community Manager = like a gardener. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (link to update)

Then the other day I was thinking to myself… Why not just call them community gardeners (or perhaps throw a social in the front for good measure: “Social Community Gardener” <- You heard that here first! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Well, while people are still trying to figure out how to build communities I’m working on the next level… Building people that build communities. ๐Ÿ™‚ REAL communities. Communities where phone numbers are exchanged, games are played, change is created.

I’ve long been on a mission to “change the world.” I realized a long time ago that the trick to that isn’t directly changing the world. It’s creating a world changing franchise! After I experiment, test and build a system for changing… Milwaukee, my neighborhood, a section of the web, etc. The trick is being able to pass this information on in a way that will allow people do the same thing only tailor made for their location. Kind of like how Mc Donald’s has Lobster sandwiches in Boston and Fried Chicken in Taiwan. Every Mc Donald’s is the same… but different.

Anyhow, as I refine my skill as a “Social Community Gardenerโ„ข” ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m also doing everything I can to pass the skill on.

The first thing I want to say is building communities is NOT easy. If you built it, they MIGHT come. I’ve been hanging out in and building my own communities since 2002. Even with all of my experience it’s STILL pretty hard (because the damn game keeps changing!) That’s all the more reason to pass this skill on so that you have a team of people to collaborate with.

I currently have 3 communities that I’ve built that are fairly successful (ie people are posting and discussing on their own without my involvement).

The crazy thing is… I want to make MORE!!! The only way that’s going to be possible is by growing gardeners to tend to the various social gardens!

I guess that’s it for this post. ๐Ÿ˜€ I have a ton more to say, but I just wanted to throw that idea out there.

I like that idea. But is also involves finding the right people to tend your garden–finding a good fit of people, skills, and ideas.
