Flying Dead Birds and Omens

Before you read this post, it would make good sense to read part one [Decisions Decisions].

You might be thinking to yourself “Dead birds don’t fly,” and you’d be right. I just thought that was a catchy title. Well here’s the story…

So I’m out running. Thinking about what my next move for work should be:

  • “Should I work things out with the school?”
  • “Maybe I should just work this week and tie up any loose ends that are on me.”
  • “Oh yeah! There’s TONS of little projects I want to work on, some would even make money! I should spend more time on those”
  • etc.

When I finally end on the conclusion that “I’ll go in this week, attempt to work out a teaching schedule that’s OK with me and the school, and keep theSPLAT!

RIGHT when I’m deciding on some shit a fucking bird lands 5 feet in front of me half-dead. I thought it was fully dead until I noticed a little twitch. It was like a slap in the face telling me something. But what?

Omens

Do you know what omens are? If not here’s [the first little bit of the Wikipedia entry on Omens]:

An omen (also called portent or presage) is a phenomenon that is believed to foretell the future, often signifying the advent of change.

It’s kind of odd for a logical ass mofoko like myself to “believe” in omens, BUT I”m all about them and a dead bird landing five feet in front of me while I’m jogging and thinking about what my next move should be in work life IS A FUCKING OMEN! lol

Now I don’t really think of “good” vs. “bad” omens. I just think omens are omens and that’s that. They are things that slap you in the face and say “HEY DUDE! LETS THINK ABOUT THIS SOME MORE!”

So, looking into the eyes of a dying bird that landed in front of me got me thinking about this. Life is short and I should be living EVERY SINGLE SECOND of it to the fullest (and I honestly try to). That being said, I realized that I’m not all that passionate about teaching Chinese. I’m SUPER passionate about teaching, but not Chinese and not at that school. So the idea of attempt to reconcile with the school was almost instantly wiped from my mind. Now I’m determined to earn money in ways that are in line with what I’m passionate about. A few things would be internet discussion forums, taichi, consulting, etc. So… I’m going to stroll into work today (late), finish up whatever needs to be done and go in the next day only if I’m requested to. I’ll also be searching for some passionate ass work like a champion this week.

Stay tuned…

Poor bird, did you try to help it?

I wonder would you consider a sign and an omen to be the same thing…. if not what’s the difference? I looked online but I wonder what you think or why you chose the word omen.

Maybe the omen means you’ll be a dead bird if you don’t pay the rent……:) I thought the operative word in for profit school would be profit. I hope are lead to a more satisfying job that also pays the rent and receive a positive omen in that direction.

Maybe the omen was for you to see that track you are on currently is one that will lead to disaster (death doesn’t always mean death). Stick with the school till something better comes your way.
