First REAL quick. I wrote this whole thing and forgot to mention [HappyBirthdayBitch.com.] Well there’s the website. If you want to help keep it updated [sign up for the MilTownKlan] and respond to the email you’ll be getting. It should be fun.
The Thirty Day Challenge
OK, so I decided to make that link big and silly. 😀 That link takes you to the “Thirty Day Challenge” website. What is it all about you may ask? Well, here it is in a nutshell:
The Thirty Day Challenge is about making your first $10 online.
You might think to yourself “$10? So what?” Well, I’ll tell you from personal experience that the first time you get some REAL money from the internet deposited into your bank account (I don’t care how much it is) your world is going to change (mine did anyway.) The funny thing is I’ve been trying all kinds of different things for a long time to make money online, and then I ended up getting my first check from something that sort of happened on accident (the whole Youtube Partner thing.)
Anyhow, that first $10 (or $100, or $1,000) you get from the internet is going to open your eyes to a whole WORLD of things you can do online. Here’s my link one more time [Thirty Day Challenge (dot) com]. I don’t get any money from that, it just tracks where people are coming from (you’ll see after you register.) They have a discussion forum and stuff that goes with it. I haven’t looked deeply into it yet, but it looks like it should be lots of fun.
Note: I just noticed that we make teams in the 30 Day Challenge. I’ll start one called the MilTownKlan with the focus being on using Youtube and Blogs perhaps? We can talk about it if you decide to try this thing. [Here’s the thread on the forums]
Don Lapre and Me
I knew Youtube would have [one of Don’s old infomercials] . Google his name, there’s [a little bit about the guy on Wikipedia.com] and tons of articles out there. It seems like there’s a lot of negative stuff out there about the guy (and perhaps with good reason) but those books you saw in the video actually had some pretty cool information in them. He had some interesting ideas in there like how to contact a manufacturer to get a free sample of something (and then sell it lol) or going to colleges near the end of the school year and buying things for dirt cheap and reselling it. A whole bunch of cool ideas. But I also learned about the follow up sales calls.
I think I bought those books for like $19.95 or something and (IMO) it was totally worth it, but what I found out later is that my name got put on a list somewhere (or a bunch of lists) as a person that was interested in making money. What followed was a bunch of sales calls trying to get me to buy shit that was $500-several thousands of dollars. Don wasn’t making money off of those $19.95 books. It was the products getting sold following those books that was making him money. I learned something from that whole experience.
Learn from Kern
Lets fast forward 8 years to today. Hokey infomercials like Don’s can’t work on me anymore (I don’t even watch TV.) Now I watch Youtube videos, read some blogs, check email and cruise the net. Every now and then someone on Youtube (or the net) catches my eye by doing something cool or different and I follow them a little more closely. Well, like I said in the video, I was interested in Internet Marketing and ran into a presentation video with Frank Kern’s voice. I had, at this point, already seen numerous videos like this (all with pretty awesome content), but Frank’s stood out because of his cool sound effects (read: cool/different.) Those sound effects may have been annoying to some people and that’s great! Filters them out. The people that thought they were cool (like me) are like “This dude is cool! He’s selling shit all laid back pimpin’ style.” Then I watched some more…
Anyhow it’s about delivering cool stuff every time you put something out there, so people are looking forward to hearing from you. I’ve never bought anything from Frank, but I look forward to the stuff he puts out and like what he has to say. You want to do this with 1 person (then 10, then 100, then 1,000, then 10,000.) Then you tell them about cool shit you’ve discovered (that you REALLY think is cool) and some of them buy it (and THANK you for it) and you will profit from their purchase. Pretty simple huh? (Maybe/Maybe not.)
The Internet Marketing Nitty Gritty
OK. Enough ramble. Let me get right to it. I woke up this morning with a message from Frank Kern. Sometimes I read them, sometimes I don’t. This time I decided to read it. In it was a link to his blog with an interview he did (lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes.) I really enjoyed the interview, you can [check it out over here.] I also want you to check out [Jason Moffatt.] The reason I like these two guys is because they’re having a good time and they give it to you straight (no BSing around as far as I can tell so far.) They also seem very sincere in their efforts to help others learn how to do what it is they do online. If you’re young, don’t have a lot of financial commitments (don’t get car payments, don’t get credit card debt, go to a state school, etc.) You won’t have to make MILLIONS of dollars to live the “pimp” life. Remeber, I’m attacking all of this from the [Your Money or Your Life] angle. I’m trying to get enough money coming in passively so I can make Youtube videos all day, play PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, do and teach Taichi, volunteer, build up the MilTownKlan and that sort of thing. And AS SOON as I “figure it out” I’ll be doing the same thing those guys are doing (trying to teach others.)
Anyhow, at the end of the interview Frank Kern was asked to list 2 marketing books or guys that he would recommend and also one book that helped him out (the book he suggested is in public domain now so it’s totally free!) The two people were [Dan Kennedy] and [John Carlton]. The book he recommended was [Scientific Advertising] (the link is to a book that is 2 books in one, because just “Scientific Advertising” is $9.99, might as well get both 🙂 .)
I’ll close by saying that people really do make thousands of dollars each month (for some each day) online through affiliate marketing, Google Adsense, selling eBooks, etc. I think it’s TOTALLY worth the investment of time to figure out. You don’t have to go BALLS TO THE WALL, quit your day job and dive in 1000% (that would probably be a bad idea), but it’s totally worth casually investigating. If you’re in high school or college, cut back on video gaming time a half hour a day and read up on marketing, affiliate links and all that jazz. One day, you might be REALLY happy you did (I think I will be soon… 😀 )
