Insane in the p-brane

Real life is stranger than fiction. So I’m almost done with that book and he’s talking about ten spacial dimensions and eleven spacetime dimensions. We’re somehow stuck in the 3rd dimension and they (you know, evil geniuses and stuff) are currently doing work to detect one of the other spacial dimensions.

On top of that there’s another theory about the big bang that says our universe and some other parallel universe colliding with each other every trillion years or so causes “the bang” and then the whole thing loops again in another trillion years or so.

It’s kind of strange thinking about all these different dimensions dancing wit each other somehow creating what we see. While my shower just now I was thinking a person in a four dimension should be able to think “faster” than a three dimensional person (assuming the dimensions work like that and would allow for a being to exist in a 4th or higher dimension). I mean, looking at a 2D world, things looking childishly simple. I assume a 4D person would feel the same way about a 3D world. So maybe Einsteinian (wow, that’s a word. Something new everyday.) equations and such would be like first grade material for a 4D dude.

I don’t think I’ll think about these things too much (yet). It looks like he’s going to address these issues in the next chapter.

Well, thought I’d ramble some before I slumbered. I didn’t need to go to sleep thinking about what sausage tastes like in the seventh spacetime dimension and what kind of porn they watch in the 4th dimension.

now put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Here’s some more books for you to check out. Flalland by Abbott–a math fantasy in a two dimensional world. Newer books from the UWM professor who thinks math is fun. Three Roads to Quantum Gravity by Lee Smolin and The End of Time by Julian Barbour. Kevin McCloud recommends the last two.

    Isn’t ti?e the 4th di?ensi?n?

  3. miltownkid says:

Yes, but then it’s called 4 spacetime dimensions (3 space and 1 time). String theory is saying that there would be 10 space dimensions and 1 time dimension, so 11 spacetime dimensions.

I can barely imagine how the 4th (spacial) dimension would work into things let alone 6 more. String theory is the current leader in uniting Quantum physics and Einsteins theory. I’ll be posting about it some more.

Actually, those other books I suggested will offer yet another unifying theory besides string theory, so maybe they’re worth checking out.

Well jeepers they would be then. I’ll be doing some Intraweb readin on the subject when I have more time (starting this coming Tuesday, maybe even a little today).
