So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

October 17th, 2011 § 3 Comments

I thought it might be time for miltownkid to take a break from videoing and writing for a little while. After discussing the thought with a couple close friends they agreed. I should be back in a couple months. :)

I’m going to share two things with you. The first, writing is magik. I noticed this some years back when I started journaling regularly. With practically no planning, just the writing of an idea, I would get exactly what I wanted. It wouldn’t happen over night, but if I was patient and kept focus, I’d get want I wanted. Writing more regularly + planning makes it (the magik) happen even faster.

The second thing I’m going to share with you is my “proof.” This is an email I sent Steve Glynn December 6th, 2007 after attending my first Spreenkler meetup. Maybe I’ll « Read the rest of this entry »

The Future Of Advertising And A Business Proposition Worth Millions

October 11th, 2011 § 2 Comments

I couldn’t find @MarkFairbanks‘ email address, so I decided to make this a blog post instead. :D That makes it easier to put towards my total words per day (now that I’m destined to be a writer!)

Out With The Old, In With The New

When I first started using YouTube I realized that people are going to stop watching TV and TV shows and start watching people (that was happening already with “reality” TV). Not all people, but some (like me!) Also people are going to start ignoring all advertising attempts. Again, not all, but people like me.

How are we going to reach these people?

Take Me For Example

Exhibit A:

That video is real life. I have no idea how many Flip camera’s I’ve sold from people asking me what camera they should buy, but I’d certainly like to know. I wish I was doing all the tracking for shizzle like that. But it takes time, energy, resources and knowledge to get that all setup properly. I could easily do it through Amazon links, but WordPress.com doesn’t like you selling shizzle and… it doesn’t really seem to be worth the effort (for me to do it anyway).

The Future Of Advertising/Marketing

If you haven’t caught it already, the future lies in promoting products and services through people that have a following and compensating them for their promoting. NOT in a selling out fashion. In a, HOLY SHIT! I LOVE THIS BRAND I AND TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME way.

The Business Proposition

I won’t spell out the whole plan, but enough for someone to “steal” it if they wanted to. ;) Lets start with me first.

What I’d like to do is partner with someone that would help me pimp out my blog/YouTube/Twitter/Facebook in a way that lets me be me while promoting shit I like. For me it would be health stuff, spiritual stuff, Milwaukee stuff, Martial Arts stuff, personal development stuff, etc.

I don’t know exactly how everything would get balanced out (technical, business vs. personal, splitting of profits, etc.) BUT if that got figured out it would be…

WORTH MILLIONS!

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!! I might mess around an end up an Apple fanboy if I keep reading up on Steve Jobs. An interesting halo effect of his passing is people making (us) crazies more socially acceptable. :D

Anyhow, once a template is made it could be applied to thousands of people all around the world and a network of “brand agents” could be built so when a company wants to introduce their product into the Chilean market, they don’t need to do a bunch of research. They interview some of our agents in that sector, choose the one that is a fit for them (and vice-versa) and the brand agent, who is a influential wizard celebrity in their particular culture (and culture of that culture) niche goes to work doing what they do best.

If there wasn’t one “the company” would find one and create one by putting them through our intense 6 week influential wizard celebrity course (which teaches them all of the NLP brainwashing illuminati mind tricks which have been developed over thousands of test cases). :D

The Details

I have this theory of business (and life) that as much as possible should be done as transparently as possible. What I had in mind for Mark (or whomever thinks this is a good idea) was some kind of split for a miltownkid LLC (which I would be a majority share owner of of course, it’s my life! lol) Then all of the profits and whatnot could be run through that (from Google Adsense, affiliate sales, “deals” made with brands I think are awesome).

At whatever point it becomes clear that this is an awesome idea (I already know it is as it’s from me. ;) ) A parent organization is created which ends up being the owner of the other slice of miltownkid LLC (and then I’d like a slice of that parent organization).

This can all be boot strapped (the best way to start), time/skill would be the only investments. (I’ve already logged tens of thousands of hours into this startup! lol)

The Key

The real key to all of this would be connecting passionate blogging/vlogging souls out there to awesome companies and facilitating everything in a way that makes the blogger/vlogger happy and the company happy. Shit being smooth is what the company pays for, blogger/vloggers will be happy to get paid when they didn’t have a clear monetization plan in place prior.

Examples

The best example I have of this is winning the Ford Fiesta. I wish I could have done a better job of promoting the Fiesta at the time but… I was in a different place in life. :) That said, they created an extreme Ford fanboy where I was team Mazda before that. Guess what my first new car is going to be (I won’t make you guess, a Ford Fiesta).

I wish I was positioned to market more things I love (like… Milwaukee Brewing Co. ;) ):

TTFN!

The most wonderful thing about being a miltownkid is I’m the only one! ;)

I need to wrap this post up. I don’t think this style would work for all bloggers/vloggers, but it would for some. I love marketing so much that I would love to live and breath it too. If a contract got worked out with Apple, I’d get rid of all other products that didn’t fit in. That said I’m a fan of Samsung and Sony too! lol No one has captured me as a “loyalist” yet. And… I suppose no one would unless an agreement was worked out. Or perhaps only certain things would/could get a “loyalist” agreement (like with Brew City), other things would have to be something else (there’s no way I’m becoming a gaming loyalist! I need to have ALL the systems! lol)

Like I said, I don’t have it all worked out, but I think there’s something there worth exploring…

I Love Marketing

September 29th, 2011 § 1 Comment

I really do. Especially now that I REALLY see how it fits into things I want to accomplish. Mastering the arts of marketing and selling isn’t just for products and services. It’s also for ideas, feelings and other things not so easily measure!

I briefly mention in the video below that I attended a conference for pastors this past week. One could argue that people are purchasing a “service” from church, but I don’t think it’s in the same sense as one purchases a service from a mechanic. What you’re purchasing is… community, guidance and in some cases entry to heaven. ;)

While writing this I got to thinking, what exactly is a person buying when they get a lottery ticket? A story (what they’d do if they win), entertainment, etc…

Anywho… here’s the video. It’s back to marketing for me!

The First Essay Written On miltownkid

September 28th, 2011 § 2 Comments

Well… The first essay I’m aware of anyway! I guess this is also the first “guest post.” The person who wrote this chose to remain anonymous but said they’re OK with me sharing it on the blog. I often times get messages sent to me telling me how much of an effect I’ve had on someone’s life. Those kinds of emails are probably my largest motivating factor for creating the content that I create online. I TRULY don’t care about views, subscribers, money, etc. except for how it relates to being able to positively effect others (and more happens to be better! ;) ) Anyhow, here’s the essay. I didn’t make any changes to it (other than extra line breaks for ease of reading). I just copied and pasted it from the email.

A Paper About Someone Who Influenced You

There is always a time in life when a hero shows up. Somebody who has inspired you, and helped you learn the meaning of life. But who knew that hero would exist on the internet? Casey Payne, also known by his internet name “Miltownkid”, is a guy who just doesn’t live life by the rules. His alias derives from his hometown and playground Milwaukee, hence the term “Miltown”, and the term “kid”, which exploits his young and lively personality. Suffering from bipolar disorder, he has learned to cope with his illness and uses it as a learning experience when pursuing life. Casey’s evolution from a Milwaukee native, to overcoming his manic bipolar episodes, to his views and goals on making the world a better place, and inspiring me to do better is what makes him my role model, while at the same time still preserving his inner “kid”.

Casey was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Having a white mother and a black father, this gave him a cultural advantage over most people, being able to see the world from two different perspectives. He has a passion for Asian culture and martial arts, and currently teaches and runs his own Tai Chi class. In the year 2000, Casey had his first manic episode and was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Since then, he experienced another 3 manic episodes, battling the use of medication and the months spent at mental health institutions. However, he has learned to deal with his illness, or “tame the beast” as he says, and manages the use of his meds. Casey’s dream career lies within entrepreneurialism and marketing, and hopes to achieve success by the billions in the near future.

I believe a hero should be able to make the best out of something bad. In today’s society, being labelled as “mentally ill” has a significant burden on you, specifically the second you step foot out of your home. Seeing him go through job after job, learning from his past experiences and mistakes, and continuing to move forward strengthens the drive I have to achieve success in my life. Being bipolar only pushes him to improve his qualities and attributes as a person as well as his overall personality, and articulates the importance of sociality and connections. Within the past year, I made the most connections I ever made in my life. This includes getting a job, volunteering at marathons and galleries, making more friends, and having better relationships with my teachers. In the end, it is all about how you present yourself as an opportunistic individual.

Casey’s main approach of getting his message across to his audience is through videos. He owns a Youtube account, and posts daily videos regarding his goals, personal life, and new ideas which he shares with his viewers. After viewing his videos, I finally came in terms with my own self, and realized how important it is to be unique, and more importantly; me. Thanks to him, writing my goals has now become an occurring habit for me, such as doing better in school, to joining extracurricular activities, and to smarter ways of spending and handling money. His idea of always being innovative has helped me succeed in school assignments and tasks. Homework is now done on a daily basis and his emphasis on staying in shape makes me hit the gym regularly. Miltownkid showed me the ambition to excel in life by dedication and hard work.

Casey is my hero, for his disorder, his passion to become successful, and the chance to have been able to have insight on his life for the past few years, which has changed my perspective on life.
