About this blog
This blog started as a way for me to keep my mother and friends up-to-date on what was going on in my life while living in Taiwan. It’s gone through many transformations, changes of focus and redesigns. It’s currently focused on the city I was born, raised and live in, community building and other thoughts on topics that interest me (economics, politics, video games, martial arts, social (media), you get the idea).

I’m miltownkid. I created the name miltownkid when I made my first hotmail account. Mil-Town is a nickname for Milwaukee. Kid because… I want to embody all of the positive aspects that kids have for my entire life. miltownkid is the only name I’ve EVER used online since then.
I was brought into this world by a White Mother from Iowa (aka miltownmom), a Black Father from Arkansas (aka miltownpops) and the city they met in. I can’t remember living with my father as they divorced when I was two, but I regularly saw him growing up even though I lived with mom. Being biracial and being exposed to both cultures gave me an advantage over most people that I wasn’t aware of until I was in my mid-twenties. What advantage? Being able to see all situation through 2 (and now many more) points of view.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated with Asian culture and martial arts. It started in grade school with the “Karate Kid.” In high school I “graduated” into a fascination with Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Chinese arts and culture. It was also around this time that I was first exposed to Daoism and begin training at a local kung school. Daoism, Chinese culture and arts, technology and video games DOMINATED my interests in high school. It’s all I thought about and did. During my final years of high school I became infatuated with entrepreneurialism, personal development and “changing the world.”
It was also during high school that the internet really started to take off. Before the internet I was romping around on local BBSes. I was (and still am) an information junkie. I read everything I could find online about martial arts, daoism, Dragon Ball Z, Chinese culture, video games, etc.
In the summer of 2000, I had a my first manic (spiritual) episode. Basically, I went on a spiritual journey through the streets of Milwaukee that got me tackled by cops and put in a mental institution. That’s where I began my “battle” with being medicated and labeled bipolar. I eventually got out, got out of shape, got off of medication, got in shape again, regained my mind and lost it again (times 3, except for I’ve now I’m taking medication).
In 2002 I moved to Taiwan, got fluent in Chinese language (Mandarin) and culture, practiced tai chi, competed in BJJ, taught English, made a bunch of friends and drank a lot of Taiwan Beer.
In 2007 I moved back from Taiwan to the US with dreams of building a fortune 500 company and making Milwaukee the most socially connected city in the world. Since then I’ve been studying internet marketing, teaching tai chi, visiting the hospital and getting out again and starting up the fortune 500 company.

我好像寫兩篇一樣的…..
so it’s kind of unclear to me… i watched your video on youtube and are you manic-depressive? i’m just curious because I myself went through a pretty rough 4 month manic episode and haven’t really figured out who i was during that time. there’s very little media and literature on this condition so i was surprised and interested to see your blogs. are you manic-depressive?
Yes. I’m manic-depressive/bipolar. I was diagnosed when I was 20 (after an episode that led to a hospitalization). I had 2 more hospitalizations after that one, battled medication for a long time and now I’m managing things without medication.
I’m not sure which video you saw, but I’m guessing it’s not this one (as then you wouldn’t have needed to ask.
).
好久不見,我好想你,我有加你的skype,我的skype叫 Mario 鍾秉穎 你在youtube的影片很好看很好笑,我現在長高了,也要上高中了,希望你可以再跟我們出去玩.
MARIO!
Hey Casey,
You and I were talking about a book regarding healthy eating habits that a friend of yours used with great weight loss success. I’ve been trying to remember which one it was. Can’t for the life of me remember. Can you shoot me an email with a title and author. Thanks
The blogs look awesome I’m excited to see how you stick with things. Thanks for the reminder of the “Do, Be, Have” list. Funny enough the year after I made mine 3 things were crossed off. Now you have reminded me to find my list. The coolest was how peace in my family. Then my first missions trip and it was too italy.
Take care,
Maggie
