Getting To The “Tipping Point”

January 30th, 2009 § 3 Comments

I was going to write a whole post about how it seems like I and the things I’m working on are reaching a tipping point, but I decided to wait until after I finish [the book] (I just picked up a copy). Instead, I’ll just talk a bit about the idea of reaching a “tipping point” from what I know now. :)

Malcolm Gladwell talks about it in the first chapter of the book and you can [read about it on Wikipedia], but it’s interesting where the term originated from. Basically, “back in the day” when Blacks would move into a White neighborhood there was a certain number of black families that was too much for other White families to stand. Lets say 3 or 4 Black families were alright, but as soon as it hit 5 or 6 *POOF* the remain Whites in the neighborhood would ghost (aka White Flight). Even though the percentage may have shifted from 15% Black families to 20% there’s some small point where it’s too much. (Note: I made those numbers up to make a point.)

I think the title of the book pretty much summarizes the whole book. Imagine a bucket of water. You start tipping it over and you eventually hit a “point of no return” where all the water spills out. The interesting thing about that point is that there’s just a fraction of a difference change that brings about total water spillage.

Before comparing some recent events in my life to the book title, I thought it would be appropriate to read it first. Perhaps I’ll actually have crossed the tipping point when I finish reading it and follow up. :)

CoD4: Modern Warfare Vs. CoD5: World At War (Online and Single-Player)

January 28th, 2009 § 42 Comments

OK. Let me tell you why I’m making this post. I uploaded a video the other day with this title ["Thanks Bystander SCX, Check Out KonsoleKingz + SSF2HD"]. In less than a day’s time there were over 100 comments most of which arguing which game was better, Call of Duty 4 or Call of Duty 5. Do you see any mention of Call of Duty 4 or Call of Duty 5 in that title? No. It was question I added last minute at the end of the video.

My History With the Call of Duty Series

So I got into the series at Call of Duty 2. That game was fucking EPIC to me! « Read the rest of this entry »

Hiding Under The Blanket

January 21st, 2009 § 5 Comments

I should talk about being “bipolar” more often I thinks… I usually don’t show or talk about the downs because they suck. I don’t like them, BUT after being manic for a week or so I KNOW the downs are coming. What usually happens is I think everything I’m doing sucks and I should stop and I hide under my blanket all day.

It’s so odd because on the manic side of things I’M THE FUCKING KING OF THE WORLD!!! Anything’s possible, I get a ton of stuff done and life is great! Then, when it’s blanket time, I can’t do anything and I’m CERTAIN that everything I’m working on is stupid and will fail.

I had one of those kinds of days yesterday. :P

All Of My Accounts And Blogging For My Momma

January 19th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

So I’m uploading a video where I ramble about this topic for a while and I’ll add it to this post when it’s done. I’m going to go in reverse order of the title.

Blogging For My Momma

When I originally started blogging the whole purpose was to keep everyone back home up-to-date on what was going on with my life in Taiwan without sending a mass email. Once you start a blog with this goal in mind, you quickly realize that you really only have one reader. Your momma. lol

With that said, blogging for your momma is an awesome way to blog. You just talk about random things you’re thinking about and share (hopefully) interesting stories about what’s going down in life. I’m going to bring this blog’s focus back to it’s basics: my momma. The other thing I’m going to blog about is what’s going on with “all of my other accounts.”

All Of My Other Accounts

My other accounts refer to YouTube accounts, but really different businesses I’m starting. I’ve gotten ULTRA focused with all the projects I’m working on and I’m going to lay them out for you right here. All of these accounts have YouTube channels and Twitter accounts of the same name. :)

miltownkid

This one should be pretty obvious. I’m going to keep being me and share the adventures of me. I plan on making the monies from this down the line, but no rush.

[SocialMilwauke.com]

This is a new presence I’m building online to be “professional” with (well, more professional than here ;) ). What I’m basically going to do is establish myself as THEE expert in the Social Media game here in Milwaukee. I’m going to know who’s who, who’s hot and who’s not. I’m going to interview people and… Do all kinds of bad ass stuff. [Check out my first post there to get a more detailed idea.]

MyDeadXbox.com (the website sucks right now, but [here's a link to the YouTube channel])

What I’m doing here is building a YouTube channel and community focused purely on gaming. This will be fun for me (because I LOVES gaming) and I hope to eventually hook up some sponsorship and whatnot once I have a bad ass community built. I’m also going to be reviewing games and talk about gaming news on that channel.

[Pwing Life.com]

I had to pause writing this post for a second to repurchase this domain. I didn’t notice it at the time, but I actually bought it on Martin Luther King’s birthday. Interesting… Anyhow, Pwning Life is going to be a community of people focused on one thing “pwning life.” [I explain what Pwning Life is in this blog post.]

The MilTownKlan

The finally goal of the MilTownKlan will be to create my own “mafia” of sorts. One that hangs out and does stuff both on and offline. This will also be the name that I do my martial arts stuff and whatnot under. And that’s all I want to say about that. :)

Any Questions Momma?

I think that should summarize everything pretty good. I’m also going to be cleaning up my categories to reflect the focus of this year. I was never very good about keeping those well sorted, but I’m going to be doing MUCH better from here on out. :)

MPS, Social Media and Education

January 19th, 2009 § 7 Comments

This post is a response to a series of “Tweets.” Things unfolded like this:

I wonder how twitter could change k-12 education? Meeting with educators last Friday–only kids use social media. Schools block it. Ideas? – [JHTaylor (link to Tweet)]

@JHTaylor RE: Education I have a ton. Most centered around the use of these tools after school. – [SocialMilwaukee (link to Tweet)]

@SocialMilwaukee Would like to hear more. [JHTaylor (link to Tweet)]

Here’s the more… :) « Read the rest of this entry »
