I’m Playing Hookie Right Now – (LOL School Sucks!)

August 21st, 2008 § 3 Comments

I’m suppose to be in some training thing provided by [Catapult Learning] but I decided to hide from the suck in one of the classrooms that has internet. :D

I already sat through one session two days ago and… Well, think about this. She’s supposedly teaching me how to teach and I’m fucking bored out of my mind! I mean… I guess that’s the usual protocol for dealing with adults but… MAN! I already got busted though and might have to go in during one of the breaks. :P

Schools Waste Money

No surprise there eh? But… I’m learning that it’s kind of not their fault. You have companies like “Catapult Failing” out to get all their dollars. I MIGHT be speaking too soon, but I doubt it. I heard the actual dollar amount our school is going to be (forced to be) spending on this company and… Yeah, a waste. Check out their “mission statement”:

Our mission is to be the preferred partner of schools, school districts, community organizations and families, providing research-based educational and support services designed to improve student achievement.

They say it plan as day in the mission statement. Let me translate the bolded part for you, “to be the preferred destination of large sums of money of”.

Anyhoo… I’ll see how it plays out as the year goes by. I’d feel a little better about that company if their mission statement started with something about helping kids pwn at life. But that’s not REALLY what they’re all about. Bitches.

Traditional Schooling, Prepare to be Butthurt…

August 19th, 2008 § 4 Comments

lol. [Butthurt]

Anyhow, a large part of me taking this full-time teaching position is because I have an opportunity to expose the SUCK that is traditional schooling. I’m tired of kids saying “school sucks” and then adults/parents saying “shut up it’s good for you.” That shit is NOT go for you. Kids are right, parents/adults are generally wrong (in my opinion.) Kids lack the vocabulary to to express what they know (either consciously or unconsciously.) And what they know is that something is VERY wrong with the experience they’re having.

Anyhow, I mostly wanted to brain dump some thoughts/ideas I noted down while at school yesterday.

Well… I don’t really have time to make a post like that. I’ll get back to the butthurting. Basically my plan is to do a bunch of cool things that any school could be doing but aren’t. On top of that I plan on making it VERY clear that the guy that came up with these cool things doesn’t have a college degree AND almost didn’t get the job because of this limiting factor.

Basically I feel like this is an opportunity for me to payback the school system for being comprised of so much SUCK and FORCING me to go through with it. I could have been doing WAY cooler things, like flipping, playing video games, reading books, messing with computers. Things that would have been WAY more useful today than… Whatever the crap it is they supposedly “teach” in schools these days.

These parents got it right [allowing their kid to drop out of school to play guitar hero professionally.]

Chad Hurley: How We Kept Our Pimphand Strong

August 18th, 2008 § 1 Comment

All I’m going to do is provide you with a link to a very awesome blog post where Chad “We PWNED You Other Mofokin’ Video Sites” Hurley talks about what went on during the early stages of Youtube. It’s very interesting for anyone attempting to start up some big idea shit. *ahem*

Anyhow, the first day of school was awesome, but I think I’ll talk about that in another post. Monday nights is relax and drink a beer nights. [Here's the link to the post.]

First Day of WORK Work

August 18th, 2008 § 1 Comment

I haven’t had a 40 hour a week 9-5ish type job since… around 2000. And that one doesn’t really even count seeing as it was third shift and I would sleep most of the time. It was a tech support job and during the 3rd shift hours I’d get like 2 or 3 calls. So instead of waiting attentively for the next call, I’d either sleep or play SNES ROMS (I beat Chrono Trigger twice at that job.)

Anyhow, this is the new teaching gig. I’m really looking forward to how it will all turn out. Well… I need to get going in about 12 minutes.

Hanging Out with My Little

August 17th, 2008 § Leave a Comment

So I do that [Big Brothers Big Sisters] thing. There’s some funny part of me that likes to keep it a secret. I’ve mentioned it in a handful of videos, but I haven’t spent much time talking about it directly. If I spend a little time thinking about it I think it’s because I don’t think volunteering should be viewed as something special. I don’t want it to look like I’m saying “Hey! Look at what I’m doing! I’m making the world better and shit!” I think volunteering should be something everyone does, like, on the regular. To the point that it isn’t special when someone volunteers, but it’s strange when someone doesn’t.

Although it would be nice if it was like that… It isn’t. So… unfortunately it is somewhat special me volunteering. :P I understand that thinking about it logically, but from my inner worldview it isn’t all that special.

My Little’s Thoughts on BBBS

So I decided to “interview” my Little (the dude I hang out with) today for a video I’m going to put together. I asked him “What is your favorite thing about BBBS?” and I think he gave me the perfect answer: “Just Hanging out.” POOF! That’s all it is really. We just hang out and it like makes the world a better place and shit. ;)

So I decided I’d make a better effort in getting the word out a little more and make a video about BBBS. I think some people might be worried about the commitment you have to make and not having enough time. I was too a little bit but… It’s no big deal really. It’s just this little dude that you hang out with from time to time. And you miss weeks sometimes (I certainly did when life would get to kicking my ass right nice) but that’s OK too. You just jump back on the horse soonest you can.

Anyhoo, I’ll make another post about it after the video’s uploaded.
