I Wish I Was Far-Sighted

Pedro is slightly far-sighted and it makes his eyes appear bigger. I wish I was REALLY far sighted. That’d be so cool. Maybe one day I could get some REALLY strong contacts that would make me far sighted, then get glasses to correct the vision. SO FRESH!

Cake Rape

The now defunct poster Sinclair had a birthday last week and then was promptly raped by a cake (as things should be in a fair and balanced universe.) Also, for added icing on the de-iced rape cake, he was recently promoted to a BJJ blue belt. Something that even made Mr. “life is just a bowl of lemons” Sinclair sinisterly giggle with glee.

You Can’t Triangle a Black Belt

What is this guy thinking trying to triangle a black belt? This was from my weekend trip to Gaoxiong (in the south of Taiwan) where Pedro (Schmall) conducted a BJJ seminar for the guys (and surprisingly gals) down there. Even though he was a little drained from being sick earlier in the week, he rolled with everyone on the last day.

So I signed up for Facebook a few days ago. The thing that led me to signing up was a thread I saw on Forumosa.com which pointed out some of the features Facebook had (like people’s ability to comment on your life somehow.) The comments in that thread peaked my interest enough to act.

What is Facebook?

Facebook is a Social Networking Site which started being only available to people with college email addresses, and it quickly turned into the platform of choice for college folk. It has recently become available to the general public and… yeah, that’s why I’m able to use it now .

How Does it Look?

I personally really like Facebook’s layout. It’s simple and professional. Not like MySpace pages where people have the ability to alter the CSS and add music, thus saving you from seeing pages [like this.]

How Do I Start?

Well, the first thing you do when signing up is create a profile. This is the usual stuff, name, contact info, about me, shit I like, photo, etc. Once that’s done you can start looking for friends. You can do this manually (search by name), find “random” friends via custom searches, or have it search your email box (I had it search my Gmail to get some starter friends.) Once that’s all done the Facebook games begin.

So What Does it Do?

Well, one interesting feature that you’ll love (or hate) is the ability to see what your friends have been up to on the Facebook network. If a friend became friends with a new friend, you’ll get an update about it in your home page. If a friend added new picutres, posted a comment on your wall, updated their profiles, or any number of other things, you’ll see it on your home page. I believe you’re able to change the privacy settings so that people are NOT updated about everything you do, but where’s the fun in that?

Like mentioned above you’re able to track down old friends. IF these friend are in the… maybe 18-24 year old age range and they’re in or went to college, they’re probably on Facebook. I was able to track down an old friend of mine this week by contacting one of his sister’s through the site. I also made a connection with someone that could turn profitable for me, all from this site over last week.

You are also able to do all this group/event organization stuff, but I haven’t messed with that stuff yet. If you like Social Networking Sites, I recommend checking this one out.

It all kind of snook up on me. I mean… it didn’t because I have been totally planning this for like… forever, but I didn’t really notice what was going on until a couple days ago. This month and next month (and possibly many months or years on) I will be answering only to myself. I’m eating, playing and paying the bills with money that I’ve collected from something I put together. It’s a REALLY nice feeling.

Things have been a little crazy, and it hasn’t all been peaches and cream, but I like this life MUCH better than the “9-5″ style work, even if the pay isn’t as good (although it looks like it’ll be even better for these 2 months as my 9-5 is usually more like a 9-11:43 .)

I flipped through my notebook this morning to look at what I had been writing in it over the past few months and it was kind of freaky. Things I wrote just a few months ago as a dream/want are a reality now. I think I might even take some snap shots of the stuff I wrote and compare it to what’s going on now (for fun perhaps.)

Anyhoo… Here are some select photos of what has been going on over the past week. These pictures pretty much represent what “work” has meant for me over the past week. This week I’ll be decreasing the pleasure and increasing the “business” though (the business is practicing harder, which is in fact a pleasure .)

The black belt (Pedro) has landed! That = 2 months of black belt pimping. What does that mean exactly? I’m hoping it means lots of training, lots of beers, lots of training, some dancing some beers some training and… THE BLUE HAT!
