Checklists and New Books
November 20th, 2006 § Leave a Comment
An idea I got from the book "Getting Things Done" was to make checklists for things. Until today I never applied that idea anywhere, but it sounded like some really good shit. Basically, for things that are going to be the same every time you do them, you make a checklist so you won’t forget anything. So if you’re like me and prone to forgetting to bring your digital camera on a vacation, you make a checklist that includes all the stuff you should bring so you don’t have to think it up everytime.
What I did was make a simple checklist for things I should do right when I wake up. Sounds a little corny, but I have a list now that I MUST complete before doing anything else. The list I’ve made is really simple, and you might laugh at the fact that I need one to assure I do these things every morning, but for me, time and time again, I wake up, get on the computer, use it use it use it, then rush, shower, breakfast and dash out the door.
If I end up staying on the computer too long (catch someone on Skype/MSN, start watching Youtube movies, etc.) then I might skip things and might, for example, end up at work a little stinkier than I should be.
Here’s the list I came up with this morning:
- Notebook (as in write in it)
- Eat
- Medicine (as in take it)
- Shower
- Brush Teeth (and floss and all that)
Moneydance
It’s so simple. Why can’t I just do that every morning? I have no clue. But I like this checklist idea. I’ll make some other one’s for travel and stuff as well.
I Love Reading
I’ve finally become a reader (my mom will like hearing that.)… Well, I always have been (video game reviews, technical manuals, etc.) but I’ve never really looked at myself as a reader. Now I always travel with a minimum of 3 books with me (even if I’m only reading one.) I’ll go so far as to say I LOVE reading. It’s hooking my shit up. All the shit you can learn from pimp ass mutha fuckas throughout time. It’s some amazing shit. It’s funny because after reading a book, you might only REALLY walk away with 1-3 new things (that you actually absorb enough to make a change) but it’s usually some good shit. Then if you read it again, you’ll get 1-3 totally different things from it.
Anyhow, I go a new bag of books from the Sandwich Man himself Jlick. The last batch was GREAT! Loved them. I’m sure I’ll love this batch too.
The last Batch included:
- Secrets of a Millionaire Mind (Which I Posted about)
- Basic Economics (Which I also posted about)
- Automatic Wealth (Amazon link)
I made a little book video that I’ll let you watch, but the current batch are these:
- Applied Economics (like part 2 to "Basic Economics")
- Economics in One Lesson
- The Millionaire Next Door
- Learned Optimism
The other three books are books I bought or were borrowed to me:
- Awaken the Giant Within
- Did You Spot the Gorilla?
- Getting Things Done
Enjoy!
A Slow Recovery from Two Weekends of Tournament Stress

I think my body will finally be caught up to where my mind wants to be after this weekend. My work/play schedule doesn’t give me much free time during the week (you think play is free time? Think again
) So I usually get a lot of my business work done on the weekends. A monekywrench got thrown in that procedure, because the last two weekends I was competing and totally consumed doing such.
The week after the Taichi tournament left me totally weak. I mean, I was drained. I was drained right up until last weekend, when I then flew to Hong Kong to compete some more. This competition left me bruised and batterd all last week (and now even.)
What happened was in one of the purple belt matches, I got my face squeezed so hard that blood came out. Then the spots that got squeezed all hard turned into Canker sores (really big ones, one on top and one on the bottom.) Plus I’ve had an eyeball ache all week (well, not now so much.) Check it out! It’s pretty cool!

I got the details for my birthday party smashed out yesterday. It’s going to be at a club called Crystal. There will be a cover charge. There might be some strippers (still deciding on that one.) There will be a bunch of girls dressed up as dominatrixes or something (last night was naughty nurses.)
I don’t have the place rented out exclusively for me or anything, but there’s a section of the club that will be for me and my birthday party comers. The official event post will be stickied on the blog here with a new plugin I just found called Adhesive (I’ll see if I can get it to work tonight.)
All blog readers and everyone are invited!
I’ll be emailing some invites as well, plus I’m working on a poster name invite list that I think will take me longer than a week to finish
. See the thread (My Birthday Bash)
If you come, please do approach and identify yourself

I have a back log of posts in my head, but circumstance keeps preventing me from getting the opportunity to post them. Ah well… Here’s the lastest and greatest story.
I was all excited about posting something new and fresh yesterday, but on the train ride home I get a phone call from my wife.
Wife: Did you pay the electricity bill?
Me: … no
Wife: Then that explains why we don’t have power. I thought you were going to pay it.
Me: I was… but… but, I didn’t.
On the bright side of complete darkness, I did get to bed early and I had a really relaxing morning without the distraction of the TV or computer. I got a bunch of house work done.
On a lighter note, I picked up Gears of War from the local video game shop tonight. I’ll give that a good once over this weekend. It looks like it’s going to be a great multiplayer game.
I hope I have some good news about my birthday party bash to share with you all tomorrow. You’re all invited if things go according to plan. That’ll be next Sat. Details coming soon…

So Frost and myself started up a podcast. I kept forgetting to announce it, and since I’m too lazy to write much of anything today, I’ll write about that. Basically it’s me and Frost talking about… whatever happens to come to mind. It’s full of swear words and PIMP this and PIMP that. Mom, you’re gonna love it.
I don’t have the energy to write the post I want to write right now, so go ahead and enjoy the podcast (for those of you who haven’t heard it yet.) There are 3 episodes to listen to:

First off, I let my camera at home
. Oops! Ah well, I guess I’ll need to get photos next time.
The transition from the Airport to your hotel is a very smooth one in Hong Kong. There’s a speed train straight intot he city and then free buses that go to the different hotels (well, some of them at least, mine included.)
I spent a lot of time today just walking around the city (we’re in Kowloon.) It felt like a big cleaned up version of Taipei to me. Except I didn’t know where anything was, so it was a little boring. If you like shopping, there are TONS of shops here. I-Ping had a good time exploring the different clothing stores, so at least one of us enjoyed all the shops.
I came for the BJJ and that goes down tomorrow. I guess we’ll also be hitting up HK Disney Land on Sunday, which should be fun. They should at least have some video games up and other shit like that kids likeup in there.
