The Return to Green Island Day 1
July 26th, 2006 § Leave a Comment
I wrote this on the night of day one. I didn’t really edit anything and only read through it once. I’ll add a few pictures for flavor. I like this one of my feet a lot for some reason. Maybe it’s a fettish thing.
Something I failed to mention whilst writing was we did the trip with 5 other families for a total of 26 people in our group. That’s why I couldn’t keep my hands on any of my toys during the train ride.
All of the pictures form day 1 can be seen on my flickr. [Link to Green Island photo set]

Waking up at 6 is almost never fun, especially when you went to bed at 2 the night before. After me and I-Ping got up we did that last minute packing that always seems to be left no matter how well prepared you think you are.
My last minute packing involved getting all of my electronic gear together. One of those items being a laptop I purchased the night before. I-Ping kept telling me we had to be at the train station at 6:50, so I was in a rush to get out the door. I was ready at about 6:25, but we didn’t end up walking to the MRT until 6:35 (leaving 15 minutes to get there.) I complained about that a bit on the way to the train station, but then the time got magically pushed back to 7. Things were still feeling close with the train leaving at 7, but then that also got changed to 7:10. Long story short is, we made it on time.
We met up with about half of the group at Taipei Main Station, and the other half a few stops away. After saying hello to all the kids and letting everyone see my new beard I went straight to sleep. When I woke up a few hours later it was time to start pulling out the toys.
The first thing I did was read my comic, but that was shortly stolen. Then I played with this wooden puzzle for about an hour or so, but that got stolen. I never even got to play the Nintendo DS. I did get to read my book for a while (“The Hogsfather”), but
that was just because no one else could.

After the train it was to a bus, after the bus it was to a boat, after the boat it was to the rental scooters, on the rental scooters it was to the hotel. The last time I came to Green Island we had totally different accommodations. It was about 5 people to a room and we slept on a floor. This time everyone has their own room, which will make things a bit more comfortable. Once everyone was settled in we were off. What took place next was a quick circle of the island with pit stops at some of the bigger tourist spots.

There isn’t much to report about the ride around the island. We basically did a quick once over for everyone that hasn’t been to Green Island before. We stopped by scenic ocean spots, then a Guanyin temple, then it was down to my favortie spot, two formations next to the ocean that I’m looking forward to climbing again. I got to the top of one last time and I want to get to the top of the second this time. We’ll see what happens. A few more stops and an all you can eat freezy desert place later it was back to the hotel for a quick break.

I didn’t want to say too much about the new computer, but I picked up an iBook for 26,000NT on Thursday night. I set it up on the train, synced my phone on the boat (via bluetooth), and downloaded pictures from my camera during the break. All of these events went VERY smooth. I’m extremely happy with it thus far. I see my self quickly turing to the dork side of the force.
After the break was dinner. Nothing too special, one of those big table places with rice and food. Then it was back to the hotel. It was at this point that I wrote this. Hopefully I’ll get into some beer drinking tonight. (I did get some beer)
