Taiwan Feels The Force
May 15th, 2005 § 1 Comment
With less than one week left until the Starwars opening I thought I’d put up some pictures of the ads here. They’re probably the same ones you see back home, but a little cooler because there’s Chinese in them

I went to see Sahara last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, before the movie, I saw a group of people doing Capoera outside the theater and got their information. I hope I be jiving with them soon.
Even though I’m busy I’ll try my best to be a good blogger for the next two weeks. I have some more pictures I want to get up. I need to hurry up and make a photo gallery.

Too Many Hours
May 13th, 2005 § 1 Comment
Equals no posting. My problem is I don’t want to post unless have like an hour spare time to sit down and work on my post. Working 3 hours a day had me spoiled. I do have some pictures an d stuff ready but they’ll have to wait for another day. I’m really looking for to finishing this month and going back to my 3 hour a day goodness.
2 weeks down (almost) two to go.

I feel a change coming

I don’t know what it is about this Ubuntu, but I’m finding myself using this more than my XP machine. It feels really good for some reason. Even though it lacks some multimedia functions on the fresh install, it’s really easy to get them on (MP3, MPEG4, etc.). I think I like it’s stance on keeping this stable and legal out of the box and allowing the user to add this functionallity by themselves. Windows is pretty much the same way, except I’m sure some would say it’s easier to get working on Windows.
This Ubuntu is definitely a distro that someone could switch from Windows to with little to no pain. Another nice thing about Ubuntu is their forums and documentation. I thought Mepis was lacking in this area (from my one week’s experience with it).
I only have 2 hours of classes in the afternoon tomorrow, so I’ll try to get some pictures put up (it’s been long enough). If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m really liking the whole Linux/Open Source thing

Another Day Another Flavor of Linux
May 3rd, 2005 § 5 Comments
So, late last night I traded in my newly install Mepis for Ubuntu. Yet another very solid and smooth Linux distribution. You can even get a copy mailed to you for free if downloading is a problem.
There are enough reviews floating around the www about this one, but I’ll give it the miltown stamp. If you have the time try it. There’s even a LiveCD version so you can boot it up without a hard drive installation.
I realized today that my time is worth approximately $40,000US/hour. OK, that figure might be a slight exaggeration, but I think people place far too low a value on their time (well, I feel like I do anyway). I understand that people need to put food on the table and all that, but doing too many hours a day and leaving little to no time for “me time” is a bad thing.
What’s bringing this out of me is working the second job in the afternoons. On one hand I’ll have more money at the end of the month, that I could save or buy stuff with. On the other I’m losing time that could be used playing with the stuff I already have. I guess the thing is I have so many projects I want to work on right now that time just feels really valuable to me.
Maybe you’ll want to skip reading this month. Maybe it’ll be full of tiddly little rants.
Let me just list some things:
Finished reading Diary: A Novel today
I got an email back from PHS apologizing about not letting foreigners sign up for mobile service (maybe I’ll do a vs. post)
OK, done for today.

I got my own webserver working for the first time today. There really wasn’t much to do since Mepis did all the leg work for me. That’s about all I have time to say, here’s the current domain for my computer (that I’m posting this from).

I hope I don’t get hacked in my sleep
